Fanaticism

A view on fanaticism. A friend of mine sent me a message letting me know that the article '"A German's View on Islam" by Dr. Emanuel Tanay-Fiction !'had been taken off my Facebook timeline. He wondered why anyone would take offence,after-all, it's only someone's experience and another person's opinion, not to mention it's factual. My friend also posited that most people didn't read the whole article, which I tend to agree with. Before I continue, let's add a little more balance to the article. Let's not omit the atrocious behaviour of Christians after-all two of the Abrahamic religions have been mentioned. Without going into detail what about The Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition the English Reformation, did you ever wonder about that ruined abbey at Whitby. A religion founded on the family value's of Henry the 8th, what could possibly go wrong ! The Troubles, what a misnomer, and finally the most egregiously despicab
I was going to leave this topic alone, however, I feel I have to say something however distasteful and controversial it may be. A majority voted to leave the EU. I believe in democracy, the vote was carried. The premise on which many of you voted on was ill-informed and misguided. You love Nigel Farage he smokes fags and drinks pints, just like us. Yeah, is he giving up his 600,000 Euro, a year, pension? Yeah, he's just like you. You talked of regaining sovereignty, what sovereignty? The Queen wasn't elected, she simply popped out of the “correct” uterus Theresa May, certainly didn't reach her position due to a democratic vote. Where are the plans, of those, that desperately wanted the UK to leave the EU ? Sure, the government had no contingency plans. What about the “Brexiteers” where is their plan? Jacob Rees-Mogg needs to go back to his own Dickensian reality, Michael Gove, really, needs to consult experts and Boris, highly educated (Eton and Oxford) needs to use this
First, I'm wondering why I'm making this post. I know it won't make any difference. Second, if you don't like what I'm saying, by all means, unfriend me. I've become a bit of a strange beast, I don't bear grudges. So, if, by some remote chance, we meet I won't bear you any animus, if you unfriend me. I had no idea that the Brexit campaign was so vicious, on both sides. At this point I want to make an apology to Anthony Burrows. I made a glib and crass remark and I'm sorry. Now, what the fuck am I rambling about ? One friend stated that “the decision has been made, it's done and dusted, stop talking about it”. The decision has been made but the resulting fallout is going to have consequences for decades to come. Another friend said “we have to protect what our forbears have left us”(actually they said forefathers but I prefer to be gender neutral). Dead wrong, we have to pass on a better future to our children. I think you have voted for a very da

Brexit 1

In a few hours you are going to make, probably, the biggest decision of your life. I beg you don't vote emotionally, a visceral vote won't help. Voting out is akin to the analogy of the unpopular boy, who has a football, but no-one wants to play with him, but everyone wants the ball, so being mardy (this word is in the dictionary but is only in the common vernacular of the Midlands and the North, please explain to our Southern friends) he takes the ball home. Now, this argument is common to both sides of the “in” and“out” argument. The U.K could “take the ball” away or The E.U could “take the ball” away. If we leave we will have no allies, apart from Vladimir Putin ( he is not going to help the U.K) Britain will be cast into a political and economic wilder-land. If the E.U “takes the ball away” woe betide, the French are dying to “put the boot in”, the Germans have, at present, said they want no animosity. If Brexit threatens to unravel the E.U the gloves will come off. I know,
