A view on fanaticism.
A friend of mine sent me a message letting me know that the article '"A German's View on Islam" by Dr. Emanuel Tanay-Fiction !'had been taken off my Facebook timeline. He wondered why anyone would take offence,after-all, it's only someone's experience and another person's opinion, not to mention it's factual. My friend also posited that most people didn't read the whole article,which I tend to agree with.
Before I continue, let's add a little more balance to the article. Let's not omit the atrocious behaviour of Christians after-all two of the Abrahamic religions have been mentioned. Without going into detail what about The Crusades,the Spanish Inquisition the English Reformation,did you ever wonder about that ruined abbey at Whitby. A religion founded on the family value's of Henry the 8th, what could possibly go wrong ! The Troubles, what a misnomer, and finally the most egregiously despicable religion of all, Nationalism, which was the root cause of both WW1 and WW2.
Now,you are probably wondering why I'm putting my foot (UK size 8 ½, quite small for my height) into this murky puddle of controversy. Well, the answer is egregiously clear,please read the article, the fanatics aren't going to take over they already have. The article is a self-fulfilling prophecy,why self-fulfilling, because the second an alternative opinion is given against the religious zeitgeist we are attacked and silenced. Yet all religions claim to have the moralistic high ground, looking back at past history and present, I really do wonder.
How did we reach this condition ? For me the answer is crystal clear all religions be it actual religion,nationalism,politics or economics, practised to the extreme, I must add, afford themselves a state of egregious solipsism. They have a baseless belief that they have supreme authority and feel they have a social license to impose their beliefs on YOU. Imagine if the fanatics achieve religious homogeneity over us all, a true Orwellian World order. No pluralism or alternative views, vehemently attacking or censoring anything opposed to their, be it any religious denomination, views, opinions or dogma.
We are already censored, to some degree, do you really want all aspects of your existence controlled ? Atrocities have been, are and will be committed in the name of dogma. You may have noticed I'm not discriminating against any single religion,actually, I'm discriminating against all of them anything extreme needs to be stopped.
Some will accuse me of being an extreme,fanatical atheist,this isn't possible. Please, let me explain my stance. Atheism is a non, as in a non- stamp collector or a non-ornithologist. I don't know if there is a “god” and truthfully neither do you. There's no concrete, cogent proof and man -made texts provide no definitive proof, whatsoever. I feel the biggest obstacle is simply the human condition, Darwin states it beautifully, we all bear the lowly stamp of our origin. Isn't the only way, to transcend our condition, through open and critical debate ? I wouldn't force my views on you, why do you want to impose them on me ? If you take slight or umbrage at my posting, I do apologise,with a caveat. Remember the “Golden Rule”, which came,originally, from the works of Confucius.
