I was going to leave this topic alone, however, I feel I have to say something however distasteful and controversial it may be. A majority voted to leave the EU. I believe in democracy, the vote was carried. The premise on which many of you voted on was ill-informed and misguided. You love Nigel Farage he smokes fags and drinks pints, just like us. Yeah, is he giving up his 600,000 Euro, a year, pension? Yeah, he's just like you. You talked of regaining sovereignty, what sovereignty? The Queen wasn't elected, she simply popped out of the “correct” uterus Theresa May, certainly didn't reach her position due to a democratic vote.
Where are the plans, of those, that desperately wanted the UK to leave the EU ? Sure, the government had no contingency plans. What about the “Brexiteers” where is their plan? Jacob Rees-Mogg needs to go back to his own Dickensian reality, Michael Gove, really, needs to consult experts and Boris, highly educated (Eton and Oxford) needs to use this education.
The Britain, I used to, live in was a people of pragmatism. We didn't like it but we “rolled up our sleeves” and did it. Now it's “I don't like it” “I believe”. Belief needs to be relegated to the realms of religion. It's a belief, it isn't and quite often not true.
The vote, IMHO, should stand. Another referendum would be a farce of democracy. However, when Britain joined the EEC in 1973 we were the poorest member of the 7. That we became the second richest is no coincidence. Now, the purists will be saying “I'd sooner be free and poor”. You're not free and no-one on my FB friend list has ever been poor. I've gone days without food. The serf (pleb), aristocracy (moneyed) feudal relationship hasn't ended, sure, it's morphed but still exists. You're not free, simply, you're liberties have been expanded.
I get it, an unelected governing body holding sway over the British populace is, to say the least, abhorrent. How many of you voted for Nigel Farage? He spent 17/18 years perpetrating this shit-storm and quickly ducked out of providing any solutions. “I've done my bit, I want my life back”.
How many of you drive a British car? Answer no-one. When these companies leave Britain because of Brexit we'll be back to the mass unemployment of the late seventies and eighties. Don't remember it? Read some books.
If the UK wants to continue trade with the EU they have to abide by EU rules. No vote or veto for the UK. You voted for more regulation without any say in the matter. “We'll just make trade deals with other countries”, you'll just what? Trade deals take years to settle. Oh, let me make this crystal clear, (as an ex-pat) most of the World don't like us. Our closest allies are, ironically, Germany and Canada. Most other nationalities would love to see England (the noun picked purposely) humiliated.
Your vote was purely visceral. The good side is the pound's value will drop through the floor, saving some jobs. Forget about foreign holidays, Blackpool and Skeggy for you. Britain will recover but at what cost and how long, the recovery, will take I have no idea. Now I'm sure I'll be lambasted for this post. Remember this, just saying something doesn't make it a fact. Give me facts, live in reality. Effusive emotion is great with your paramour but has little place in real World.
Bloviation finished.
